Fast‑Tracked Growth and New Standards

Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda praised the meteoric rise of AIIMS Bilaspur, noting that the hospital has already outstripped its planned 750‑bed capacity and now operates with 776 beds. In a remarkably short span, the centre has introduced 26 specialty and 15 super‑specialty services, ranging from complex cardiac catheterisations to state‑of‑the‑art radiotherapy and neurosurgery.

Surging Patient Footfall

The outpatient department (OPD) has logged over 12 lakh consultations in the last four years, while inpatient admissions have breached the one‑lakh threshold. During the 2024‑25 financial year alone, OPD visits exceeded three lakh and diagnostic examinations topped ten lakh, reflecting growing public confidence in the facility’s capabilities.

Academic Achievements and Leadership

AIIMS Bilaspur admitted its first MBBS cohort in January 2021 and was officially inaugurated in October 2022. The recent convocation celebrated the debut graduating batch, a landmark for the institute’s teaching mission. President Droupadi Murmu, who graced the event, urged the new doctors to centre their practice on service to humanity and to bring quality care to the remote corners of Himachal Pradesh.

Expanding Clinical Infrastructure

Beyond the swelling bed count, the hospital now delivers a comprehensive suite of high‑end procedures: major surgeries, cardiac interventions, dialysis, extensive diagnostic services, and a dedicated cancer‑care wing. Faculty and staff have been lauded for achieving this scale of growth at a speed that older AIIMS campuses typically require many more years to match.

Future Outlook

Minister Nadda expressed confidence that, within the next two to three years, AIIMS Bilaspur will stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the nation’s premier AIIMS institutions. Ongoing investment in specialised departments and patient‑centred care is set to cement its status as a leading hub for advanced healthcare and medical education in Himachal Pradesh.
