Dehradun: A disturbing episode in broad daylight – a woman was allegedly forced toward a moving car near Nalapani Chowk – has sparked swift action from the Uttarakhand State Women’s Commission. After the incident’s video exploded on social platforms, the commission took suo motu cognizance and ordered a comprehensive investigation.
How the incident unfolded
On Wednesday morning, a resident of the Nalapani Chowk neighbourhood was riding her scooter home after seeing her daughter board a college bus. Witnesses say a black car, its occupants wearing masks, began tailing her and attempted to pull her into the vehicle.
The woman fought back, managing to escape the assailants’ grip. Nearby female sanitation workers from the Municipal Corporation heard the commotion, rushed to the scene, and confronted the intruders, prompting the suspects to flee.
Commission’s immediate response
Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal contacted SP (Rural) Jaya Baluni and Circle Officer Vandana Verma. Police confirmed a case had been lodged at Raipur police station and that three special investigation teams were already on the ground.
Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity to identify the masked men and the black car. Kandwal instructed officers to explore every possible motive – from personal grudges to organized criminal conspiracies – and to ensure the perpetrators are apprehended swiftly.
Calls for decisive action
The chair praised the victim’s courage and the quick intervention of the sanitation workers, labeling their actions as exemplary. She urged the police to treat the case with the utmost seriousness, stressing that any act that threatens women’s sense of security must be met with strict legal consequences.
The Women’s Commission has pledged to monitor the investigation’s progress closely, ensuring that justice is delivered and that similar incidents are deterred in the future.
