Overview of the incident

In the pre‑dawn hours of Thursday, personnel of the Border Security Force posted at the Rajoke Border Outpost in the Khalra sector of Tarn Taran observed a suspicious movement along the India‑Pakistan line of control. The encounter, recorded at roughly 12:35 a.m., involved a small group of three to four individuals attempting to breach Indian territory.

How the confrontation unfolded

Night‑vision footage showed the party advancing toward the Indian side. BSF guards issued verbal warnings, but the suspects pressed on, forcing the troops to open fire. Two of the trespassers were killed on the spot, while the third managed to retreat back across the border.

The bodies were retrieved and placed under BSF custody. Their identities have not yet been confirmed, though early intelligence points to Pakistani nationality; the force has not released an official statement on citizenship. Pakistani Rangers have been informed of the episode.

Post‑engagement sweep

Following the shooting, security agencies began a thorough search of the neighboring stretch of the frontier on Friday. Teams are combing the terrain to determine whether any additional infiltrators succeeded in slipping into Indian soil.

The operation also aims to locate any weapons, narcotics or other contraband that may have been stashed in the area, probing possible links to cross‑border smuggling—a persistent challenge in this sector.

Possible smuggling angles

The corridor has a long‑standing record of illicit trafficking, including drone‑borne drug and arms shipments. At present, investigators have found no concrete evidence that the two deceased were part of an organised smuggling ring.

Current investigative status

Forensic teams are working to establish the identities of the slain individuals and to ascertain the exact motive behind the attempted infiltration. Further updates will be provided as the inquiry unfolds.
