Dehradun – Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami officially opened a suite of five development schemes worth ₹20.55 crore on the Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University campus at Selaqui. The ceremony featured the laying of foundation stones for three flagship projects valued at ₹20.21 crore, together with the inauguration of two smaller undertakings costing a combined ₹34 lakh.

New Campus Infrastructure Takes Off

The announced works comprise a sprawling administrative building, a contemporary amphitheatre and a “Nakshatra Vatika” – a garden designed around constellations. In addition, the chief minister unveiled the university’s revamped main entrance gate and a cutting‑edge dental hospital.

During the event, CM Dhami offered prayers to Goddess Saraswati and placed floral tributes at the statue of the late Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, paying homage to his vision. He emphasized that the university is a cornerstone for training the next generation of medical professionals, and that these new amenities will elevate the academic ambience while driving regional progress.

Dhami reiterated the state’s commitment to producing skilled doctors, nurses and allied‑health workers, underscoring the profound social duty of the medical fraternity – to save lives and restore hope. He added that compassion, sensitivity and dedication remain the core virtues of the profession.

The chief minister also disclosed that a proposal for a super‑speciality hospital on the university grounds has been forwarded to the Union Ministry of Health, with further development contingent on central approval.

Healthcare Infrastructure Expanding Across Uttarakhand

Aligned with the national thrust for better health services, Uttarakhand is bolstering its own network. The state currently runs five government medical colleges, two more under construction, alongside nine nursing colleges and three nursing schools.

Super‑specialty facilities are being upgraded at the medical colleges in Dehradun, Haldwani and Srinagar. A world‑class cancer institute is under development in Haldwani, while district hospitals and community health centres are receiving systematic enhancements.

In Kichha, Udham Singh Nagar, a ₹351 crore AIIMS satellite centre is taking shape to deliver premier care to a vast catchment area. Tele‑medicine platforms and helicopter ambulance services are further narrowing the accessibility gap for remote populations, and the government is intensifying recruitment and training of doctors, nurses and paramedical staff for its public hospitals.

Uttarakhand Youth Securing Jobs Abroad

The state’s foreign‑language training programmes are opening doors to international employment. In 2023, sixty candidates were placed in Japan, and thirteen secured positions in Germany in 2025. A notable success story is Sapna Rana, who landed a role in Germany after completing German‑language training.

Graduates from Uttarakhand’s institutions are also making their mark in prestigious Indian establishments such as AIIMS, PGI, the Indian Railways and the Military Nursing Service.

Over 35,000 Government Jobs Created in Five Years

Dhami reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to safeguard the future of the state’s youth. A stringent anti‑copying law now governs recruitment examinations, ensuring transparency. In the past five years, more than 35,000 young Uttarakhandis have entered government service through merit‑based selections.

Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal affirmed that the government continues to invest in modern infrastructure for medical colleges, guaranteeing high‑quality education and training for students.
