Nomination Lodged at the State Assembly

On Tuesday, veteran BJP leader Dinesh Arya formally entered the contest for Uttarakhand’s sole Rajya Sabha seat, submitting his nomination papers at the Dehradun Assembly. The filing was witnessed by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, state BJP chief Mahendra Bhatt, a host of ministers, legislators and senior party officials.

Arya’s Political Path

Originating from Nainital district and representing the Scheduled Caste community, Arya has been a dedicated party worker for decades. He previously headed the BJP’s Nainital district unit and occupied pivotal positions within the party’s Scheduled Caste Morcha. Currently, he serves as vice‑chairperson of the Uttarakhand State‑Level Drinking Water Monitoring Council—a post that carries the rank of Minister of State—and has also acted as Public Relations Officer to Chief Minister Dhami.

Chief Minister’s Praise

After the submission, CM Dhami lauded Arya as a steadfast cadre who rose through the party hierarchy through unwavering commitment. He emphasized that the party’s decision to field a candidate from a modest background highlights the pathways available to members who consistently serve the organization. Dhami also expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the national leadership for backing Arya’s candidacy.

“Arya’s journey exemplifies what dedication to the party can achieve,” Dhami remarked.

Implications for the Upcoming Election

The election for Uttarakhand’s lone Rajya Sabha seat is scheduled for 16 October. Incumbent BJP MP Naresh Bansal will vacate the position on 25 November when his term ends. With the BJP enjoying a comfortable majority in the state assembly, Arya’s victory is widely regarded as a foregone conclusion, sending a reassuring signal to grassroots workers about the rewards of sustained organisational effort.
