New Delhi — Subscribers across the country could soon notice steeper bills, with a recent Centrum Institutional Research study forecasting a 12 %‑15 % rise in mobile tariffs over the next four to five months.

Why Rates Are Likely to Climb

The Indian telecom arena has become increasingly concentrated, leaving just three private giants to vie for customers. With fewer competitors in play, the environment is ripe for operators to lift prices.

Projected Subscriber Growth

The analysis anticipates that the leading trio—Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea—will continue to add users during the July‑September 2026 quarter.

  • Jio may attract roughly 8 million new connections.
  • Airtel is expected to gain about 3 million additional customers.
  • Vodafone Idea could see close to 1 million new subscribers despite intensifying competition.

ARPU Outlook

Rising data consumption and the expanding reach of 5G are set to push average revenue per user (ARPU) higher for each carrier.

  • Jio’s ARPU might climb ~1 % to approximately ₹218 per month.
  • Airtel’s ARPU could rise about 2 % to near ₹269 per month.
  • Vodafone Idea’s ARPU is projected to increase around 0.8 % to roughly ₹178 per month.

5G Expansion as a Growth Engine

Both Jio and Airtel have already rolled out 5G services in more than 95 % of India’s districts and are now focusing on boosting the uptake of 5G‑compatible devices. Vodafone Idea has launched 5G in roughly 200 cities and is steadily broadening its coverage.

What Customers Should Keep an Eye On

To date, none of the operators have officially announced a tariff hike. The 12 %‑15 % increase remains an analyst projection that could materialise within the next few months. If the forecast comes true, users might notice higher recharge amounts or tweaks to plan features, so it’s prudent to await formal notices before drawing conclusions.
