In the quiet early hours of Sunday, a devastating road accident unfolded in the Sachendi area of Kanpur. Sundarlal Kushwaha, 55, and his 22‑year‑old son Manoj were riding a motorcycle back to their home when a vehicle barreling from behind struck them near the Udaipur Kanjad Dera junction.
Chronology of the crash
The father‑son duo had just left the house of their relative, Phool Singh, and were en route to their residence in Bambi. At around 10:30 p.m., an unidentified car rammed into the rear of their bike, hurling both riders to the ground. The driver fled the scene without stopping.
Response from emergency services
Bystanders quickly called the police. Officers arrived, provided first aid, and rushed the injured men to CHC Kalyanpur. Despite the medical team’s efforts, both Sundarlal and Manoj were declared dead on arrival. Their bodies were later sent for post‑mortem examinations, and the anguished family was informed of the loss.
Profile of the victims
Manoj, the only son of Sundarlal, worked as a mason and left behind a younger sister. The sudden loss of both father and son has plunged the household into profound grief.
Investigation status
Police have opened a hunt for the fleeing vehicle. Sachendi police are reviewing CCTV footage from cameras positioned around the crash site and adjacent streets to pinpoint the make and registration of the offending car. Inspector Deenanath Mishra confirmed the fatality of two lives and pledged that the probe will continue, with legal action to follow once the family files a formal complaint.
What comes next
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward, hoping to identify the driver responsible for the crash. The incident highlights the perils of reckless driving and the pressing need for stricter road‑safety measures in the region.
