Arrest in Himachal linked to alleged rape and broken marriage vow

Police in the Mandi division have taken into custody a 27‑year‑old man from Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, accused of raping a woman after promising to marry her.

How the complaint originated

The victim alleges that Sameer, son of Dilshad, convinced her of a forthcoming marriage, escorted her to Mandi, and then assaulted her. After the incident, he allegedly fled with her motorcycle, a mobile phone, approximately ₹70,000 in cash and several pieces of jewellery, leaving her stranded in Chandigarh. Subsequent attempts to reach him were ignored.

Investigative chronology

The grievance was first lodged on 29 August as a Zero FIR at the Civil Lines police station in Muzaffarnagar, and later handed over to the Sadar police station in Mandi for a thorough probe.

Following the filing, the complainant posted a video from Mandi questioning the police’s progress, noting that the accused’s phone remained active. Investigators examined the cellular‑tower logs, pinpointed the signal to Thural in Kangra district, and moved swiftly to detain the suspect before he could leave the state.

Official remarks

Mandi Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar confirmed that the investigation is ongoing and that Sameer will be produced before a court in accordance with due process.

The authorities are also reviewing the alleged theft of cash and jewellery to decide on additional charges based on the evidence collected.
