According to local reports, the alleged kidnapping occurred on 19 September when a group of men intercepted the two children near a school premises. The incident was captured on a by‑stander's phone, and the footage quickly went viral, prompting law‑enforcement agencies to launch an intensive investigation.

Police initially apprehended three individuals and constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter further.
