Patna. The Bihar administration is poised to roll out a seven‑kilometre ropeway that will soar over the Ganga, joining the lively Marine Drive stretch of Patna with the revered Hariharnath Temple at Sonpur. Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary disclosed at the Rising Bihar Investor Summit 2026 that site work could begin in as little as five months.
Public‑Private Partnership fuels the venture
The project is being structured through a Public‑Private Partnership (PPP) framework. While the overall concept is approved, key parameters—including the exact route, station layouts, total capital outlay and technical specs—are still under detailed scrutiny.
Elevating pilgrimage and tourism flows
Targeted primarily at devotees heading to Hariharnath Temple, the ropeway offers a swift, picturesque alternative to traditional river crossings. The scheme aligns with Bihar’s wider plan to modernise tourism infrastructure, making holy sites more reachable for visitors from Patna and farther afield.
State officials are also exploring similar aerial corridors at other spiritual hubs, notably a prospective connection between Ajgaivinath Dham in Sultanganj and Aguwani Ganga Ghat in Bhagalpur.
Investor summit spotlights growth avenues
During the summit, CM Choudhary urged business leaders to capitalise on Bihar’s vibrant investment climate, pointing to opportunities in infrastructure, tourism, manufacturing, agriculture and food processing. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari attended the event, reaffirming the central government’s pledge to back Bihar’s infrastructure drive.
Flood mitigation remains a parallel focus
The chief minister also highlighted the state’s persistent flood woes, calling for long‑term measures to manage upstream water inflows, reinforce Ganga embankments and capture monsoon runoff for use in drought‑prone districts later in the year.
Roadmap for the ropeway project
With the Patna‑Sonpur ropeway set to blend improved river crossing with tourism development, the immediate agenda centres on finalising engineering designs, locking in private partners and securing all regulatory clearances before breaking ground.
