New Delhi. In a tense operation that unfolded just after midnight, Delhi police detained two suspects linked to a gun‑fire episode at a dwelling in the Bhajanpura area. Both men sustained bullet wounds to their legs during the confrontation, and officers seized three semi‑automatic pistols, 18 cartridges and an unregistered motorcycle.

Who were the arrested individuals?

The apprehended persons are identified as 23‑year‑old Jasim, locally nicknamed “Aloo,” a resident of Welcome, and 23‑year‑old Kaif, who goes by the alias “DJ.”

What triggered the violent clash?

According to official statements, the pair opened fire on a police unit that tried to block their movement. The exchange lasted several rounds, striking the bullet‑proof vests of two officers. Police returned fire, injuring both suspects and securing their capture.

How the shooting was initially reported

The incident began on 2 October at approximately 2:43 a.m. in Gali No. 16, Subhash Vihar, North Ghonda, under the jurisdiction of Bhajanpura police station. A resident on his balcony reported that two youths arrived on a scooter, brandishing pistols, firing at him and into the air before speeding away.

The stray bullets shattered the balcony’s glass railings and dented the exterior wall, though no one was hurt. A case was lodged under sections pertaining to attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act.

Steps taken by investigators to locate the culprits

A Special Staff team was mobilised to trace the suspects. By reviewing CCTV footage from nearby cameras and gathering tips from locals, police learned that the duo intended to travel by motorcycle from Nanaksar to Usmanpur via Third Pushta Road.

Positioned along the suspected route, officers spotted the two men on a bike lacking a number plate at around 2:45 a.m. When ordered to halt, the men allegedly opened fire, prompting a police response that resulted in their arrest.

Background and seized evidence

During the seizure, investigators recovered three semi‑automatic pistols, 18 rounds of ammunition, and the motorcycle used in the episode. A background check on Jasim revealed an existing Arms Act case registered with the Special Cell, while Kaif appears to have no prior criminal record.

Both suspects reportedly admitted to taking part in the balcony attack and claimed they acted on orders from a figure identified as Rashid, alias “Cablewala.” Authorities are now probing the motive behind the shooting and whether additional participants were involved in planning or executing the assault.
