From his official residence in Dehradun, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami welcomed a delegation of the Pradesh Pradhan Sangathan, led by state president Yogita Kentura Rawat. The gathering focused on the indispensable contribution of Gram Panchayats and the state’s portfolio of rural‑development initiatives.

Gram Panchayats: The Grassroots Engine of Democracy

Dhami opened the discussion by highlighting Gram Panchayats as one of India’s most critical democratic institutions. He pointed out that village heads and elected Panchayat members are the first point of contact for citizens, addressing grievances, steering local projects, and ensuring that welfare programmes reach those who need them most.

The chief minister described Gram Pradhans as the essential bridge that connects ordinary villagers with the administration, helping to pinpoint urgent needs and devise practical solutions for rural areas.

State Priorities for Rural Uttarakhand

According to Dhami, the government’s vision for a comprehensive uplift of the countryside rests on four pillars:

  • Infrastructure upgrades – improved road networks, dependable drinking‑water supply, modernised schools, primary‑health‑care centres, and better sanitation facilities.
  • Economic revitalisation – bolstering the rural economy through skill development, micro‑enterprise promotion, and farmer‑friendly policies.
  • Employment generation – creating job opportunities within villages to curb out‑migration and raise local incomes.
  • Inclusive welfare – guaranteeing that every segment of society benefits from development initiatives, thereby raising living standards across the board.

He emphasized that Uttarakhand’s true strength lies in its villages, cultural heritage, and agrarian base, and that empowering these units is key to building a self‑reliant state.

Active Participation of Panchayat Leaders

Dhami stressed that elected representatives must play an active role in planning and executing projects that reflect the unique needs of their constituencies. He affirmed the government’s respect for the on‑the‑ground insights of Panchayat members and pledged to give them meaningful opportunities to shape development agendas.

Providing Gram Panchayats a seat at the planning table and upgrading essential rural facilities were identified as top government priorities.

Looking Ahead: Collaboration for Faster Progress

The chief minister expressed confidence that the Pradesh Pradhan Sangathan, together with village‑level leaders, will continue to work closely with the state administration, accelerating rural development and strengthening local governance.
