Bettiah: State officials have accelerated assistance for those hit by the West Champaran floods, planning to deposit cash directly into the victims' bank accounts before the Dussehra festivities.
Speedy Financial Support
During a briefing at his residence on Hospital Road, BJP MP Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal said that every possible step is being taken to aid families and cultivators whose lives were upended by the recent deluge.
Crop Insurance Payouts for Farmers
Landowners whose fields were inundated will be compensated under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. The state’s Agriculture Department is currently gathering loss data to determine the exact amounts. Jaiswal highlighted that the scheme, dormant in the district for almost ten years, has now been revived.
Causes Behind the Flood Surge
The MP traced the calamity to a series of events that began with the failure of 13 dams on Nepal’s Trishuli River roughly a month ago. Subsequent three days of heavy rain caused river levels in both Bihar and Nepal to rise sharply. The compromised dams also released a torrent into the Valmikinagar barrage, putting additional strain on local flood‑control structures.
Embankment Repair Efforts
After a leak was identified in a vulnerable embankment, the secretary of the Water Resources Department arrived for an on‑site assessment. Within a day, Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary visited the affected villages, issued orders, and supervised the start of repair work, which is expected to be finished by Saturday.
Overview of Development and Relief Programs
The press conference also reviewed the progress of ongoing development projects in the area alongside emergency relief actions. Attendees included Nautan MLA Narayan Prasad, BJP district president Roopak Srivastava, local leaders Ravi Singh and Manoj Singh, and several other party representatives.
