Background of the crime

In October 2024, the lifeless body of a six‑year‑old girl was uncovered inside a deserted warehouse in the Daladabari area of Jaigaon, Alipurduar. Subsequent investigations pointed to the child’s neighbours as the chief suspects in what police described as a vicious rape followed by murder.

Investigation and apprehensions

Detectives determined that the offence was a premeditated kidnapping, noting that the principal accused had enticed the girl with deceptive promises. The case was built on surveillance video, forensic reports and DNA profiling. Bablu Mian was the first to be taken into custody, with Zaidul Islam, Manir Hussain and Majibul Sheikh arrested thereafter.

Authorities recorded statements from twenty‑two eyewitnesses, which bolstered the physical evidence and linked all four men to the crime.

Trial proceedings and verdict

The fast‑track bench examined the evidence over an approximate period of eighteen months. Prosecutor Debaranjan Bandyopadhyay urged the judges to impose the severest punishments permissible under law.

Finding the prosecution’s case compelling, the court sentenced Bablu Mian to death. The three co‑accused—Zaidul Islam, Manir Hussain and Majibul Sheikh—were each handed life imprisonment. The court rejected the claim that the victim’s body had been incinerated, as the allegation could not be proved beyond reasonable doubt.

Beyond imprisonment, the state government was directed to compensate the bereaved family with ₹6 lakh. The victim’s mother said the family had prayed for the harshest possible retribution.

While the judgment concludes the fast‑track trial, the convicted individuals retain the right to challenge the decision in higher courts.
