Unexpected Turn: A Quick Rest Becomes a Night‑Time Heist
During the early hours of the day, Vivek and his family pulled over near Rai to shake off fatigue. After securing the vehicle, they settled inside for a short nap, unaware that a criminal scheme was already unfolding nearby.
How the crime unfolded
In the dim pre‑dawn light, Vivek awoke to see a man rummaging around the locked car. The intruder swiftly lifted a handbag, a laptop, a mobile phone, earbuds, chargers and other personal belongings. Before Vivek could react, the suspect sprinted toward a metal railing, leapt over it and linked up with two accomplices waiting on a motorcycle on the opposite side of the road.
The swift two‑wheeler escape
The three thieves accelerated away in a coordinated dash, leaving the family stunned and their possessions gone. Vivek estimates the total loss at roughly ₹2.25 lakh.
Vivek said: “We never imagined a simple rest stop could turn into such a nightmare.”
Police action and ongoing investigation
Vivek, a resident of Maruti Kunj, filed a formal complaint with the Rai police, urging swift recovery of the stolen items and apprehension of the culprits. The FIR has been registered, and investigators are now reviewing eyewitness accounts, CCTV footage and any leads that could identify the thieves and trace their escape route.
Officials emphasized the need for heightened vigilance during roadside stops, especially in isolated stretches, and advised motorists to double‑check that doors and windows are fully secured before taking a break.
