Statewide initiative to restore 19 lakh voters

The Election Department of Chhattisgarh has kicked off a month‑long, door‑to‑door outreach aimed at locating citizens who were inadvertently left off the electoral register after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Covering all 90 assembly constituencies, the drive targets roughly 19 lakh individuals for fresh registration.

Why names vanished during SIR

The SIR exercise resulted in the deletion of about 25 lakh entries from the state's voter lists. While close to 6 lakh of those deletions pertained to deceased persons, nearly 19 lakh were removed for reasons such as incomplete documentation or failure to attend verification. This new campaign focuses on that latter group, offering them another chance to be listed.

How the outreach will work

Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct systematic house‑to‑house visits. Their responsibilities include pinpointing households where eligible residents missed the enumeration, helping them complete the necessary paperwork, and guiding them through the submission of Form 6 to request inclusion in the electoral roll.

No need for 2003 roll data

Applicants under this special re‑enrolment scheme are not required to furnish details from the 2003 electoral roll. They must, however, present the standard documents prescribed for voter registration, and BLOs will clarify exactly what is needed.

First‑time voters are also included

The effort is not limited to those previously on the roll. Young adults who have recently attained voting age will be identified and encouraged to file Form 6 as well. BLOs are tasked with spotting these new electors during their field visits.

Goal: a precise and inclusive voter list

The department aims to finalize the re‑enrolment before the official roll is published, ensuring that no eligible resident is unintentionally omitted. By coupling thorough field verification with streamlined paperwork, the campaign seeks to make Chhattisgarh’s electoral rolls both accurate and comprehensive.
