At roughly 9:45 p.m. on Tuesday, a sudden volley of gunfire shattered the usual hum of Kotla Chungi crossing in Firozabad. The discharge, made from a legally registered revolver, sent shopkeepers, shoppers and lingering Ram‑leela audience members scrambling for safety, turning the bustling bazaar into a scene of panic.

Those Injured

The two people caught in the barrage were:

  • Shipra Tailang, 35, residing in Gunjan Enclave, Mathura Nagar. She has been married to Rishabh "Bunty" Tailang for nearly ten years and was staying with her parents after a two‑year marital dispute.
  • Sunny Thakur, a young entrepreneur who operates an internet‑service shop from a rented stall close to the crossing.

Police reports say Shipra was inside a relative’s home discussing family matters when the shots rang out. Sunny was inside his shop, attending to his customers.

Extent of Injuries

Both victims sustained serious bullet wounds:

  • Shipra: multiple projectiles struck her shoulder, abdomen and ribs; one bullet whizzed dangerously close to her hand.
  • Sunny: bullet wounds to his chest and rib cage, severe enough to require referral to a specialist hospital in Agra.

Emergency responders rushed them to the government trauma centre for immediate treatment.

Police Action and Detention

Officers patrolling near the crossing heard the gunshots and sprinted to the location. They pursued the alleged shooter, recovered the revolver, and placed him in custody within minutes. Senior officials, including SP City Ravishankar Prasad and CO City Santosh Kumar, arrived shortly thereafter to supervise the investigation.
