Incident Summary
On Monday morning, a bus travelling at excessive speed lost control on the Jwalapur stretch of Haridwar, just outside Durga Chowk. The vehicle drifted onto the curb and slammed into an auto‑rickshaw and four cars that were stationary along the roadside.
Injured Parties and Damage
The collision left the auto‑rickshaw driver, Trilok Singh Gusain, badly hurt. He was immediately whisked to Jolly Grant Hospital for advanced medical care. A stray dog caught in the impact succumbed at the scene, and the four cars, along with the auto‑rickshaw, suffered extensive damage.
Eyewitness Response
Bystanders rushed to the spot, creating a bustling crowd that tried to aid the injured driver. The sudden gathering and the wrecked vehicles caused a temporary blockage, halting traffic for several minutes.
Police Intervention
Jwalapur police arrived promptly, cordoned off the area, and apprehended the bus driver. The bus itself was also seized as officers began reconstructing the sequence of events that led to the loss of control.
Ongoing Probe
Preliminary findings point to reckless speed as a primary cause, but investigators are reviewing driver statements, vehicle data and other evidence before drawing a final verdict. The injured auto‑rickshaw driver remains under medical observation, and further legal steps will follow the conclusion of the inquiry.
