Kurukshetra: After five days of intensive searching, the lifeless body of a 36‑year‑old daily‑wage worker from Ismailabad was retrieved from the Bhakra‑Narwana branch canal close to the village of Kirmich.

How the Body Was Located and Confirmed

Local villagers reported seeing a motionless figure near a canal siphon and immediately notified a team of divers. Diver Pragat Singh headed the operation that pulled the body from the water. Police matched the recovered remains with missing‑person alerts circulating on social media and WhatsApp, identifying the deceased as Dharmbir, locally known as Bablu, a father of three daughters and the main provider for his family.

Dharmbir’s father, Lal Chand, and his brother arrived at the site, verified the identity, and handed the body over to law‑enforcement officials. The remains were then taken to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital for a forensic autopsy.

Family’s Account of the Disappearance

According to relatives, Dharmbir left his home on the afternoon of 1 October and never returned. After canvassing nearby areas without success, the family lodged a missing‑person report with the Ismailabad police station.

His father disclosed that Dharmbir had been experiencing personal stress and frequently complained of hand pain due to the physically demanding nature of his work. The three daughters range from 18 months to 12 years old. Dharmbir lived separately from his brothers, and no known conflicts or adversaries were reported.

Police Follow‑Up

KUK police Sub‑Inspector Sudhir Kumar confirmed that officers reached the canal after receiving a tip about a possible body. Following identification by Dharmbir’s relatives, the corpse was dispatched for autopsy.

Investigators stated that further action will hinge on the post‑mortem results and any additional evidence uncovered during the ongoing inquiry.
