Background

Pawan Kumar Garg, who served as the nursing superintendent for the Orthopaedics Department at King George's Medical University, disappeared on the night of 27 September after departing his residence in Keshav Nagar, Medan, accompanied by his friend Sachin.

Chronology of the disappearance

Police reports indicate that the pair set off in Garg’s car. Footage from the Itaunja toll plaza shows the vehicle passing the gate, though the driver’s face is obscured. Investigators linked the attire visible in the video to the clothes Garg wore that evening, and a second passenger was seen seated beside him.

Beyond the toll, the car arrived at Ludhauli village where Garg and Sachin joined acquaintances at a local gathering. According to witnesses, an argument broke out during the event, culminating in an alleged assault that left both men gravely injured.

After the confrontation, Garg’s mobile phone was discovered turned off. His relatives filed a missing‑person report at the Medan police station on 29 September.

Police investigation

Investigators traced the route of the vehicle along the Lucknow‑Sitapur corridor. The abandoned car was later located near Chadhehra Bazaar on the Jairampur road, within the Kamalapur sector of Sitapur, on Tuesday.

Interrogations of several suspects shed light on the Ludhauli gathering and the purported attack. Authorities now believe that after the assault, Garg and Sachin were placed back into the car and possibly driven toward the Sitapur‑Bahraich border.

Search operations

In response, police have launched a coordinated sweep of the Ghaghara River, which is suspected to be the route taken by the perpetrators. Teams from the police, fire department, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are combing the riverbanks and adjacent areas.

The probe remains active as officials strive to reconstruct the exact sequence of events after the two men reached Ludhauli village and to locate the missing nursing superintendent.
