Kotdwar – A dispute ignited by a social‑media post quickly turned into a physical altercation involving Deepak Kumar (also known as Mohammad) and local entrepreneur Sanjeev Tank. Footage from nearby CCTV shows the argument escalating from sharp words to shoving and pushing.
Traders Rally at Kotwali
When the video went viral, a sizable group of traders, labourers and BJP supporters assembled outside the Kotdwar Kotwali. The crowd chanted slogans and pressed authorities to act promptly against the alleged perpetrator.
Police Place Suspect in Custody
To curb the mounting tension, police took Deepak Kumar into preventive custody. Additional Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Thakur clarified that the detention follows a formal complaint filed by Sanjeev Tank.
The ASP added that Kumar will be presented before the Sub‑Divisional Magistrate's court in accordance with standard legal procedure, emphasizing that no individual is permitted to dispense justice on their own.
Legal Warning Issued
Authorities warned that anyone attempting to disrupt public order or engage in unlawful behavior will be dealt with under the appropriate statutes.
