Dehradun. In celebration of the International Day of Older Persons, the extraordinary story of 113‑year‑old Thakur Das from Majri Grant, Doiwala, shines a light on a life anchored in discipline, independence, and a wealth of experience.
Having lived through the British Raj, the upheaval of the 1947 Partition, and the emergence of a sovereign India, Mr. Das now resides with the fourth generation of his family. Despite his centenarian years, he continues to perform many everyday tasks unaided.
Living Actively at 113
Thakur Das still manages his farmland, oversees crop cycles, and even travels to the bank for essential transactions. Neighbours frequently comment on his vitality and his ability to handle affairs on his own.
When asked about the sweeping changes he has witnessed, he emphasizes that today’s youth are the driving force behind the nation’s future growth.
Guidance for Young People
In dialogues with youngsters, Das delivers a straightforward message: steer clear of every form of addiction. He attributes his lifelong sobriety to a rigorous, disciplined routine.
He also encourages the younger generation to work earnestly, uphold discipline, and maintain a positive mindset. Voting, he asserts, is a civic responsibility that must never be taken lightly, and every citizen should feel a duty toward the country.
Finally, Das calls on those who are capable to extend a helping hand to those in need, describing it as a moral obligation.
