Complaint lodged by a CIP trainee
Authorities in Kanke have initiated criminal proceedings after a clinical‑psychology trainee at the Central Institute of Psychiatry (CIP) in Ranchi alleged that she was sexually assaulted by a fellow student inside the institute’s postgraduate hostel.

The complainant, a clinical‑psychology trainee, was staying in the institute’s postgraduate accommodation when she entered Room 54 on the night of 28 June to conduct a psychometry exercise. She reports feeling light‑headed shortly after entering.
According to her statement, the accused—identified as Sarthak Chaudhary, an M.Phil. candidate from the same department—offered her water from a steel bottle. She claims that after drinking it, her condition deteriorated, leaving her unable to fully grasp what followed.
Alleged assault
The trainee alleges that Chaudhary instructed her to lie down on the bed. When she resisted, she says he locked the door, forced her to remain inside, and proceeded to sexually assault her without consent, restraining her throughout the encounter.
After the incident
She states she was finally allowed to leave the room at approximately 5 a.m. on 29 June. Overwhelmed by fear and shock, she did not approach officials immediately, but later reported the matter to the police and demanded legal action against the accused.
Police response
Kanke police have registered an FIR and are collecting all pertinent evidence. Investigators intend to examine CCTV footage from the hostel corridors and the interior of Room 54, as well as retrieve call‑detail records and location data for the period surrounding the alleged assault.
All obtained material will be scrutinised to reconstruct the timeline of events and to substantiate the trainee’s allegations. The investigation remains active, and the case will proceed through the formal judicial process.
