Breakthrough in the ₹1.5 crore cash robbery
New Delhi – In a decisive turn of events, Delhi Police have identified and apprehended five individuals linked to the audacious theft of roughly ₹1.5 crore in cash. The investigation has already yielded the recovery of about ₹1 crore from the accused.
The incident unfolded on the evening of 7 September along the Outer Ring Road, near the Geeta Colony flyover. Two men, traveling together in an auto‑rickshaw from Chandni Chowk to Safdarjum Enclave, were carrying a sack that reportedly held the cash.
While en route, a duo on motorcycles intercepted the auto‑rickshaw, brandishing weapons and forcing the passengers to surrender the bag. The thieves escaped with the cash, prompting the victims to lodge a formal complaint.
Police action and cash recovery
Intensive field work and interrogations enabled investigators to trace the gang’s members. Five suspects were taken into custody, and during their questioning a substantial portion of the stolen money—approximately ₹1 crore—was retrieved.
Authorities continue to pursue the remaining amount and are probing potential co‑conspirators who may have facilitated the robbery.
“Our teams are leaving no stone unturned to bring the full ₹1.5 crore back to its rightful owners,” a senior police spokesperson said.
