Dehradun – In a joint operation, the Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) partnered with Dehradun police to shut down a suspected illegal call centre on GMS Road. Investigators say the outfit used a 32‑slot SIM box to route calls through personal mobile numbers, sidestepping the legally prescribed 1600‑series helpline.
Seizure at Singh Asset Recon Services
The raid targeted the offices of SINGH ASSET RECON SERVICES PRIVATE LIMITED (SARS). Officers recovered a DINSTAR 32‑slot SIM box, a stack of 45 SIM cards, a laptop, two routers, two ATM cards and assorted electronic equipment.
Customer data uncovered
Forensic analysis of the laptop revealed records that appear linked to credit‑card holders from several banks, including SBI, Bank of Baroda, Axis Bank, Poonawalla Finance, Yes Bank and RBL Bank. Police are tracing the origin and intended misuse of this information.
How the calls were made
According to statements, agents posed as representatives of credit‑card issuers, promoting offers and urging immediate deposits. In many cases, callers applied pressure, threats or intimidation to compel victims to share confidential details or transfer funds.
The scheme did not use the authorized 1600‑series numbers. Instead, each call was funneled through a personal mobile line, a method made possible by the seized SIM box, which can obscure the true source of the call.
Workforce and remuneration
Investigators found roughly 39 young men and women on the floor, all paid on a commission basis for securing “appointments” or “sales” over the phone.
Arrests and legal actions
Two senior officials were taken into custody: company manager Laxman Prasad and regional manager Jagmohan Singh Rawat. A case has been lodged at Dehradun’s Cyber Crime Police Station under Crime No. 49/2026. Authorities are invoking provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Information Technology Act and the Telecommunications Act.
Ongoing investigation
Investigators continue to examine the seized devices, call logs and customer data to map the full extent of the operation and identify any additional participants.
