Corpses discovered inside a parked automobile
Authorities acted on a tip about a motionless individual inside a car parked in Friends Colony, close to the Jamuna Palace complex. When officers from the Rajiv Nagar police station arrived, they encountered the victim with a gunshot wound and recovered a pistol from the vicinity.
Who the deceased was
The body was identified as Alok Kumar, a former engineer who had risen to the position of General Manager at Coal India. Originally from Motihari, Kumar settled in Ranchi after retirement and was listed as a resident of the Indira Nagar police‑station area in Gonda, near Kanke Road.
Family says he traveled to Patna to meet his sister
Kumar’s brother‑in‑law, Vinod Kumar, lives in Flat 302, F‑Block of Vidya Vihar Apartments—the same neighbourhood where the car was located. Vinod explained that Alok arrived in Patna about two nights earlier, having visited the city roughly fifteen days prior. He was in town to see his sister, who lives nearby. Kumar’s wife had predeceased him, and his son resides outside Patna.
On the morning the body was found, Kumar reportedly set out for his routine walk and never returned. His remains were later discovered inside the parked vehicle beneath Jamuna Palace.
Police cordon the area and summon forensic specialists
Following the grim discovery, officers sealed off the location and began gathering physical evidence. A team from the Forensic Science Laboratory was deployed to photograph the scene, collect the recovered firearm and process any biological material.
Investigators examine CCTV footage and question acquaintances
Law‑enforcement officials are reviewing footage from surveillance cameras installed around Friends Colony to trace Kumar’s movements from his arrival to the moment the car was abandoned. They are also interviewing relatives, neighbours and anyone who may have interacted with him in the days leading up to his death.
Cause of death remains under investigation
At present, police are treating the case as an open inquiry, balancing the possibilities of suicide against potential homicide. The final conclusion will depend on the autopsy report, forensic analysis of the pistol and ballistics, and any further evidence uncovered during the ongoing probe.
