Agra: After a protracted hunt lasting almost eleven months, Uttar Pradesh police have taken a woman into custody in connection with a violent assault that shocked the Barhan locality of Agra.

Background of the incident

The alleged attack is said to have occurred on the night of 20 October 2025, shortly after Diwali celebrations. The victim, employed as a chemical assistant engineer at a cement plant in Haldwani, had traveled home for the festival.

How the assault unfolded

According to the FIR, the man was resting outside the family house following the Diwali puja when his sister‑in‑law reportedly summoned him to a bedroom around 2 a.m. Once inside, she is accused of striking him with a blade, inflicting serious wounds.

The victim’s screams roused other family members, who rushed to his aid. Authorities arrived promptly, transporting him first to SN Medical College and subsequently to AIIMS Delhi due to the gravity of his injuries.

Police pursuit and arrest

In the aftermath, the accused’s husband allegedly escorted her to her parental home in Etah. She then vanished from the village, eluding police for months. Persistent investigative work eventually led officers to locate her at a relative’s residence, where she was apprehended.

“The medical report confirms that the injuries were life‑threatening. Based on these findings, we have upgraded the charge to attempt‑to‑murder,” said DCP West Zone Aditya Singh.

Legal ramifications

With the attempt‑to‑murder charge now attached, the case remains under active investigation as authorities seek to unravel the full sequence of events leading up to the assault.
