New Delhi – Police have disclosed a disturbing case of an alleged gang‑rape involving a 17‑year‑old girl in the Astha Kunj vicinity of the Kalkaji Temple complex. Three individuals have been taken into custody, and one of them, 34‑year‑old Asif of Tughlakabad, sustained a gunshot wound during a police confrontation and was shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.
How the incident unfolded
The victim, accompanied by a minor male friend, visited Kalkaji Temple for prayers. After the rituals, they entered Astha Kunj Park through Gate 7. According to investigators, three men approached the pair, claiming to be police officers, and threatened them.
The trio allegedly separated the girl from her friend, dragging her to a secluded spot where Asif is said to have brandished a weapon and sexually assaulted her. The other two men are also accused of participating in the assault. After the attack, the suspects fled the scene.
Police response
Following a tip‑off, officers from Amar Colony Police Station rushed to Astha Kunj. The girl was immediately transported to AIIMS for a medical examination, while crime‑scene investigators collected forensic evidence.
Later, police received intelligence that Asif was hiding near DM Office Road in Amar Colony. A team surrounded the area and attempted to apprehend him. According to the police, Asif opened fire, discharging three rounds; one bullet struck the bullet‑proof vest of Head Constable Rajesh. In response, the constable fired back in self‑defence, hitting Asif in the leg. The injured suspect was then taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre.
Ongoing investigation
An FIR has been lodged and a comprehensive investigation is underway. Officials have confirmed the victim’s age as between 16 and 17 years and have completed her medical examination. The remaining two accused have also been arrested, and further interrogations are in progress to reconstruct the full sequence of events.
